Publicado el 14 de Mayo de 2020

Publishers Weekly and Seville, Spain–based Lantia have announced a new magazine for the Spanish publishing trade, Publishers Weekly en Español (PWeE). The magazine will be published in print and digital formats 26 times a year, with the first issue expected to be published in advance of the 2020 fall trade shows in Madrid and Frankfurt. The magazine will be distributed throughout Spain in the first year, with the expectation distribution will follow to Mexico, Central and South America by no later than 2022.

The content will include news, interviews and pre-publication book reviews sourced from and focused on the global Spanish-language book market. Daniel Pinilla, a journalist, author, and former editor with Spanish book publisher Editorial Samarcanda, will be editor of the magazine. Ed Nawotka, bookselling and international editor of PW, will serve as editorial advisor.

“Publishers Weekly is a revered 150-year-old institution,” said Enrique Parrilla, Lantia CEO. “People who have to buy and sell books need Publishers Weekly. The Spanish-speaking market has not been able to enjoy such an objective reference for bookstores, libraries and publishers. Now the key book buyers in the Spanish market—bookstore managers and librarians—as well as 530 million Spanish speakers, will have access to book publishing and bookselling news and reviews in Spanish.”

“Publishers Weekly en Español extends the brand into a growing market, more than doubling our reach worldwide," said Cevin Bryerman, executive v-p and publisher ofPublishers Weekly. "Lantia is the ideal partner to embark upon all areas of the global Spanish market."

Several publishing executives in Spain have already expressed their support for the magazine.

“The news of the forthcoming launch of a Spanish edition of Publishers Weekly is something we have been longing to hear for a long time. That this comes during such a challenging point in the life of our industry—and with Lantia at the helm to guarantee its quality—makes for some of the best news of the year,” said Grupo Planeta’s Roger Domingo, editorial director, Ediciones Deusto, Alienta Editorial, Gestión 2000 and ParaDummies.

“When I first heard that PW was preparing a new Spanish edition with fresh, exclusive and proprietary content for the global market, I already knew this was excellent news. However, seeing how this arrives just as the industry is battling the devastating effects of the pandemic, the arrival of Publishers Weekly en Español is truly a blessing: an injection of confidence for publishers, distributors, booksellers, authors and agents,” said Lluís Miquel Palomares Balcells, CEO, Carmen Balcells Literary Agency.
